Rhabdomyolysis Associated with Antimicrobial Drug–Resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae

چکیده

We describe a case of rhabdomyolysis in a patient infected with antimicrobial drug-resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae The patient's acute-phase serum levels of interleukin-18 and tumor necrosis factor-α were high, which suggests a pathogenic role for M. pneumoniae. In an era of increasing antimicrobial drug resistance, a system for rapidly identifying resistant M. pneumoniae would be beneficial.

Macrolide-Resistant Mycoplasma pneumoniae in Humans, Ontario, Canada, 2010–2011

Antimicrobial drug resistance rates for Mycoplasma pneumoniae was determined in clinical specimens and isolates obtained during 2011-2012 in Ontario, Canada. Of 91 M. pneumoniae drug-resistant specimens, 11 (12.1%) carried nucleotide mutations associated with macrolide resistance in the 23S rRNA gene. None of the M. pneumoniae specimens were resistant to fluoroquinolones or tetracyclines.

Molecular mechanisms of macrolide resistance in clinical isolates of Mycoplasma pneumoniae from China.

Fifty clinical Mycoplasma pneumoniae strains were isolated from 370 children with respiratory tract infections. Four strains were susceptible to macrolides, while the other 46 (92%) were macrolide resistant. The molecular mechanism of resistance was shown to be associated with point mutations in 23S rRNA at positions 2063 and 2064.

Increased macrolide resistance of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in pediatric patients with community-acquired pneumonia.

Among 380 Mycoplasma pneumoniae isolates from 3,678 pediatric patients with community-acquired pneumonia, 50 macrolide-resistant strains had an A2063G transition in domain V of the 23S rRNA, whereas 5 had an A2064G transition. These resistant strains increased rapidly from April 2002 to December 2006.

In vitro development of resistance to six and four fluoroquinolones in Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Mycoplasma hominis, respectively.

Selection of resistant mutants in sequential subcultures with increasing concentrations of six and four different fluoroquinolones was studied for one reference strain each of Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Mycoplasma hominis, respectively. All fluoroquinolones tested selected for resistance, with alterations affecting the quinolone resistance-determining regions of the four target topoisomerase genes.
